Global.me in a nutshell

Global.me project aims at providing high quality global education course for the Finnish upper secondary school students (age from 16 to 19). The project echoes the Finnish national objective of global education, which is “expanding global education in formal education” (Global Education 2010 programme, Ministry of Education, Finland).

The project endeavours to preserve and enrich the multiculturalism and culture diversity among the youth in Nordic countries. Global.me course fits in the objective of the culture and art programme by bridging the world and the Nordic Region, especially at the school level. In our vision, we aim for building a tolerant, multicultural society, where all people can live in harmony. In correspondence with the vision, Global.me project sets our mission as helping young people to understand the global world and bring internationalization to upper secondary schools.

The core activity of Globalme Projektiyhdistys ry is to create each spring an international course of 2.5 months on global education in Finnish upper secondary schools and vocational schools in regions around Helsinki, Tampere, Jyväskylä and Oulu. The Global.me Course brings 15 energetic teacher interns (selected through the global network of AIESEC) in order to teach global education in the Finnish upper secondary school classrooms. The course itself focuses on global education, which comprises citizenship and human rights education, sustainable development, peace and media education, intercultural communication education.The Global.me course follows the programme Global education 2010 of the Finnish Ministry of Education, which aims at expanding global education in formal education.

When?

The course takes place between beginning of February and mid April. The exact dates will be agreed individually with the schools.

• Improve the possibilities of Finnish upper secondary schools in remote areas to gain international experiences.
